In Memory of William Francis Delaney
September 1, 1955 - October 30, 2005

Bill Delaney, CPDT was the original founder of American Canine Academy. He was a professional dog trainer for 20 years. During that time he trained literally tens of thousands of dogs and owners in the Bergen/Passaic area. He competed and titled dogs and also achieved highest scores in AKC Competition Obedience and Agility. Bill was an Animal Control Officer certified by the State of New Jersey. He was a Certified Dog Trainer through APDT, a Certified Evaluator for Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs and a Certified Evaluator the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program. Bill actively visited hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living facilities with his 2 Therapy dogs, Tia & Dexter for 15 years.

Bill was also an active member of several organizations including:

  • Association of Pet Dog Trainers
  • Passaic County Society Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
  • Ramapo Kennel Club - Served on the Board of Directors
  • Bright & Beautiful Therapy Dogs
  • Therapy Dog International
  • American Kennel Club - Canine Ambassador & Public Education Coordinator

Bill was undoubtedly the best dog trainer that we've ever had the pleasure of working with. He was always studying, attending seminars, watching documentaries - always looking for ways to better himself and improve the quality of his dog training. His training methods changed constantly through out the years. He started out with command training like so many others of us did and then eventually switched over to positive reinforcement. He was always up to date on the latest techniques and was always the first in the field to institute new methods after carefully researching them. Dog training professionals always sought out Bill for his advise. He was truly gifted and his passing has left a huge void in the dog training industry.

Bill was diagnosed with cancer in the advanced stage in 2004 and passed away 13 months later. The people at American Canine Academy rallied together and became Bill's extended family during that ordeal. A website was created to keep everyone up to date on Bill's progress and also for clients to send Bill prayers and wishes. Click on The Bill Report and The Guestbook to view these portions of the website exactly as they appeared.

Thank you Bill for all that you gave us. You will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace.
